CMLL Awards Global Seal of Biliteracy in German & English
The Department of Classical & Modern Languages and Literatures at Mississippi State University recently awarded the Global Seal of Biliteracy in German and English to Elizabeth Hayes, recognizing verified functional fluency in both languages. Hayes is the first recipient of the Global Seal of Biliteracy at MSU, marking a significant milestone for language credentialing on campus. She received the official certificate alongside Dr. Robert West, Department Head; Amie Russell; Associate Department Head, Instructor II of Spanish, and Undergraduate Coordinator, and Cody Fondren, Instructor II of German and Outreach & Recruitment Coordinator.
As the first university in Mississippi to partner with the Global Seal of Biliteracy, MSU now offers an internationally recognized credential that formally documents real-world multilingual proficiency. The Seal credential is stackable (you can earn higher-level certificates as your skills grow), portable (it’s recognized in different places around the world), and verifiable (each certificate has a unique serial number that can be confirmed online). The Global Seal of Biliteracy can be added to a curriculum vitae (CV), resumé, or LinkedIn profile to show employers and schools verified language skills. It can also help you qualify for higher pay, university credit, or advanced placement in academic programs.
The Global Seal of Biliteracy is available to MSU students, faculty, staff, and community members in a wide range of languages. In addition to German and English, MSU has also recently awarded the Seal in Italian and English to Dr. Amanda Baine, Business Manager II of the Graduate School, underscoring the program’s growing impact across languages.
No matter where learners begin, the Global Seal offers a clear goal and a tangible achievement. Students typically become eligible after completing at least three semesters of coursework and taking the Avant STAMP proficiency test. If you are already fluent in two or more languages, you can take the STAMP test any time to start the credentialing process.
