Language Discovery Day Showcases CMLL Programs

On September 17, 2025, The Department of Classical & Modern Languages and Literatures hosted Language Discovery Day on the Drill Field, giving hundreds MSU students a chance to explore the wide range of languages and cultures represented in the department.

Each language program hosted a table with hands-on activities, from decorating German Lebkuchenherzen to testing vocabulary with games. Students also sampled international snacks and connected with faculty and current language students.

The event was designed to spark curiosity and show how language learning can add to any MSU experience, whether through a class, a minor, or working towards the Global Seal of Biliteracy. Many students left with new ideas for their studies and signed up to get involved in our language communities and events.

“Language Discovery Day was about more than courses, it was about people, culture, and connection,” said Magda Hernandez, an organizer for this event. “We wanted students to see that language opens doors both on campus and beyond.”
