The Department of Classical and Modern Languages (CMLL) at MSU is truly excited to announce its next Distinguished Lecturer Series speaker Yamen.

Born in 1980 in Tunis, Yamen Manaï lives in Paris. As an engineer, he works on new information technologies.  He is widely considered to be one of the most influential contemporary Francophone writers, as evidenced by the prestigious awards that he has received including Le prix des cinq continents de la francophonie [Five Continents of the Francophone World Prize] (2017), Le prix de la littérature arabe [Arab Literature Prize] (2022), and Le prix orange du livre en Afrique [Orange Book Prize in Africa] (2022).  Manaï’s lyrical prose delves into a plethora of subjects linked to life in the postmodern world including anthropogenic climate change, the influence of the media, the crisis of disinformation, obscurantism, political corruption, the rights of women in traditional Muslim societies, and the unfulfilled dreams of the Arab Spring.

April 9th 3:30 pm Honors College Forum, Griffis Hall, MSU. Co-sponsored by the Shackouls Honors College, the Department of Anthropology and Middle Eastern Cultures (AMEC), and the Cobb Institute of Archaeology.
